About the feature:

Kearah-Armonie(Kearmonie) is an Afro-Caribbean Spoken Word Artist, Filmmaker, and Teaching Artist from Brooklyn, NY. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Film/Post-Production at Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema. Kearmonie’s writing often exhibits the condition of the Black American from a millennial lens, with personal accounts of love, family, oppression, and womanism. Kearmonie will also be editing the videos filmed this night, you can check out her work on her official website: http://www.kearmonie.com/

The Mic Is Open was born because, Dabz wanted to create a platform for people like herself— artists, poets, musicians—to be able to come together in unity and express themselves. We always make sure that The Mic Is Open is a place where anyone could feel comfortable with sharing the truth of who they are.

In case you forgot, Open Stage is a performing arts event in which any artist, amateur or professional, can take the stage and share a five-minute piece. This event is similar to an open mic but open to any art form. Share your art, or just enjoy the show!

Immerse: Art Exhibit is redefining the artistic experience. This is a public event that catapults the attendee into an immersive visual and performance art environment. The exhibit features contemporary art as well as live performances hand picked from the N.Y.C. area. As the viewer engages visual installations, a vast modicum of performance art becomes the backdrop or focal point creating a unique experience for each individual. As the Exhibit is called live a cycle of curated focal pieces is introduced while a live D.J. ties the night together.

The Other Side of Violet is an exhilarating collection of contemporary poetry and short fiction by established and emerging writers from across the United States and beyond. The anthology also contains interviews with Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Paul Harding and award-winning poet and novelist Tim Z. Hernandez.

Belmont Avenue has a rich history of local entrepreneurship, bartering and discount goods. Belmont’s history is nostalgic for many long-term Brownsville residents. This series of street festivals will encourage residents to “Be On Belmont” and enhance connectivity between Belmont Ave. by, promoting local business and investment  and encouraging a safe pedestrian, resident-consumer, family-friendly “place”. 

“Be On Belmont” Weekend Walks will feature local entrepreneurs, performers, resources and activities for all ages. “Be On Belmont” is free and open to the public.

It has been awhile and now it is time for our annual event 'Thee Ingredient'. We have the hottest spoken word artist in Brooklyn. We also have Chocolate Brown coming throuh as a special guest. Chocolate Brown is not only one of the best rappers in Brooklyn; hands down, but one of the realest.

Educators, Activists, and Writers! Capital Preparatory Schools is inviting you to participate in an evening of poetry + discussion. We're looking forward to an evening of sounds, words, and activism. We ask that you bring a poem/piece to perform, preferably with an emphasis on education/social justice. We'll have featured performers, a small open mic, and a roundtable discussion. Come as you are. Father Knows Best invites you for an evening of Spoken Word Poetry with nationally ranked slam poets and overall artists who do other art things, Taylor Steele and Kearah-Armonie! These two sisters from different misters have respectively been poets forever and competing in poetry slams for over 7 years(give or take).
